When Pensacola professional golfer Jerry Pate learned that he was one of the top 10 political donors from the Pensacola area during the 2012 federal election cycle, he became concerned. Not because his contributions were made public, but because more people aren’t doing the same. Pate, who turns 60 in September, said it is imperative for people with means to support leaders who will better our community. "I’m just sorry to hear I’m one of the biggest contributors" he said during an interview at his business, Jerry Pate Turf & Irrigation near Davis Highway. "Because I think we should all try to support people who are working for our community."
